How do you keep your dog safe?

I operate a pet care business and I want to start weekly newsletter about an important dog safety tip.

One that I’d like to include is something that I don’t know very much about. I remember reading on here a while ago about some danger that dogs may be at risk for by swimming in lakes. I really want to know the details of this, both for my own knowledge and to tell others.

What safety tips can you offer to other dog owners that are not so common knowledge?

Please be as detailed an accurate as possible.

All tips are appreciated! Thanks!
I remember the dog tag and vent story but I don’t remember who posted it and felt bad not giving the person credit :(

You are talking about Blue/Green Algae!

Here is one article for you to read!

Another good and useful thing to know for summer heat is about heat stroke and how to recognize it and what to do about it!
Here you go!

One that I find very annoying is when to and not to walk your dogs in the summer months. Not only the heat will get them but their paws/pads can burn and blister from the heat from the sidewalks and pavement! If your going to walk your dog do it in the morning hours or later in the evening so to avoid these dangers!

ADD: It was Berner Mom who posted about the dog tags in the heating vents!

ADD2: Blue/Green Algae forms not only in times of drought but also in high summer heat! A lake or pond even a slow running stream can produce this toxic algae! We had a large pond near me close last summer because of this Algae!
Do not be fooled!
